Charles Purcell wrote "I have little information on the attached picture. My Great Grandmother's brother is the second
seated on the right looking at the picture. His name was
NORMAN THOMAS LLOYD and he was a veteran of the
BOER WAR. He enlisted with the
ROYAL IRISH RIFLES IN HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA IN 1886 and served with them
for 21 years. In 1908 he
joined the 63rd Halifax Rifles and was chosen to represent the regiment at King George V
coronation. He served as a drill instructor during WW1. He died December 6, 1941".

Note: The photograph is of the Royal Irish Rifle Regiment and would have been taken after 1902 as many of the
soldiers were wearing Boer War medals."
